Title: Nearness
Collection: High Places
Medium: acrylic paint on canvas
Size: 40 cm x 60 cm
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The collection High Places is grounded in the recurring presence of mountains in Scripture as places where one draws near to God. The mountain is not approached as a landscape to be observed, but as a constant form through which different spiritual conditions are explored.
This collection does not describe different places, but different states of nearness to God.
In Isaiah 25:6, the mountain is a place of salvation.
In Psalms 121:1, it is refuge.
In Matthew 17:1-2, it is revelation.
Thus, for me mountain symbolizes the proximity to God. That understanding guided the work.
In Nearness, The yellow and green sky represents maturity and hope respectively. While the mountain itself is red and pink representing God’s love and peace. The relationship between these colors is not decorative. It determines how the painting stands.
